The European Parliament's LUX Audience Award and the European Film Academy have reached a significant agreement to collaborate on the European Film Club project. This initiative is set to enhance the visibility of LUX-nominated films (see the news) among young audiences across Europe, reinforcing their engagement with European cinema and the democratic values that underpin the European Union.

Through this collaboration, professors from the network of the European Parliament Ambassador Schools (EPA) - a network of schools involved in promoting EU values and institutions - facilitated by the European Parliament Liaison Offices, will be invited to organise screenings of LUX Award-nominated films. These screenings will be complemented by adaptable options tailored to various educational settings.

The European Parliament views this initiative as a key instrument for engaging young citizens; fostering reflection on pressing societal issues, such as democracy, social justice, climate action and human rights; promoting active citizenship, accompanying screenings with discussions and encouraging young Europeans to think critically and connect to European policymaking; strengthening cultural exchange, allowing people from different countries to share perspectives and engage in meaningful dialogue about common challenges; and enhancing the Parliament’s outreach and visibility.

To stimulate meaningful discussions among students, the European Film Academy will develop pedagogical kits that accompany the screenings. These kits will not only introduce students to the themes explored in each film, but will also provide insights into how the EU addresses these challenges. This educational component aims to bridge the gap between cinematic storytelling and European policies, bringing young audiences closer to the mechanisms and values of the European Union.

With this collaboration, the European Parliament and the European Film Academy reaffirm their commitment to strengthening European cultural engagement and fostering a new generation of active, informed citizens through the power of cinema.
