Film Fund Luxembourg has granted financial support to 12 audiovisual projects during its second session of 2025, including six fiction features, two animated features, one fiction series, one short fiction film, and two VR projects.

One of the most significant production grants went to Déchaînées, a drama-musical helmed by Valérie Müller and co-written by Nathalie Saugeon. Produced by France and Luxembourg (Bidibul Productions), the film was awarded €1,000,000 from the fund, for a total budget of €5.7 million, amounting to 17.51% of the production’s costs. Slated to begin shooting in August 2025, this project explores whether a dance workshop led by an internationally renowned choreographer could bring change to a prison environment.

Dora, another high-budget film, has secured a €200,000 bursary for a total production budget of €1.49 million. This co-production between South Korea, France and Luxembourg (Les Films Fauves) directed by July Jung examines the life of a young girl called Dora whose struggle with a debilitating illness takes a turn when she falls in love. Set to begin shooting in August 2025, the film explores the transformative power of love and its contrasting forces of passion and pain.

Also receiving €200,000 in support is Morir de pie, a dramedy by Maria Paz Gonzalez, co-written by Alejandra Moffat. This co-production between Chile (Quijote Films), Argentine (Gema Films), Spain (Amore Cine and Txintxua Films) and Luxembourg (Tarantula Luxembourg) with a budget of €1.48 million follows the life of Cruz, an actress working in medical simulations. When her neighbour dies under mysterious circumstances, Cruz is left questioning her own survival and identity. The project is set to begin filming in September 2025.

Dracula, The Second Coming, directed by Radu Jude, has likewise been allocated €200,000 from the fund. With a production budget of €1.5 million, this co-production between Romania (Saga Film and MicroFILM), Austria (Nabis Filmgroup), Luxembourg (Paul Thiltges Distribution and Samsa Film), Brazil (RT Features), Switzerland (Bord Cadre Films) and the UK (Sovereign Films). homes in on a chaotic chase through Transylvania after an actor playing Dracula runs away from a restaurant. Commencing shooting in July 2024, the film blends social commentary themes with futuristic narratives surrounding the myth of Dracula.

In the realm of animation, Marco Serafini and Aline Salvi’s Arvil, The Little Falcon stands out, claiming a substantial grant of €3,000,000, for a total budget of €7.55 million. This Luxembourger-Belgian-French-Indian co-production led by Cinetel follows the adventures of an unconventional teenage falcon named Arvil who aspires to become an aerial racing champion. Production will begin in May 2025 with a budget allocation of 39.72%.

Another notable animated feature named Cyrano received €1,500,000 based on a budget of €12.81 million. Directed by Guillaume Gallienne, this co-production between France, Luxembourg and Italy reimagines the final night of Cyrano de Bergerac, with a fantastical twist. Shooting for this project is set to commence in May 2025, blending adventure, family themes, and comedy.

Meanwhile, in the XR category, The Eiffel Tower secured €410,000 in production support, for an overall budget of €939,106. Directed by Mathieu Chartier, this co-production between France and Luxembourg (Mélusine) will dive into the history and future of the iconic landmark, with production beginning in September 2025.

Two fiction feature films in development – Tiamat by Ian De Toffoli and Une Belle Opportunité by Jonathan Becker – each received €60,000 to further their creative processes under the local banners of Red Lion and Skill Lab, respectively. Moreover, the XR project Amorphous, created by May Abdalla and Barry Gene Murphy for a_BAHN, was allocated a development grant worth €45,000.

Live-action series Portuguese Psychopaths, a genre-blending drama-horror staged by Wild Fang Films in co-production with Portugal, secured a production grant worth €395,972. Delving into the dark world of notorious Portuguese criminals, this project is set to begin filming in September 2025.

Lastly, Alexandre Bordier’s short fiction film Foudre was awarded €150,000.
