This year's ceremony for the most important film awards in Germany, the Lolas, was held on 9 May in Berlin. For its 75th edition, the event was hosted by actors Vicky Krieps and Florian Gallenberger, who are also presidents of the Deutsche Filmakademie. In the presence of Germany's new Minister of Culture, Wolfram Weimer, a total of 19 prizes were awarded to films released during the last year. While the German Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media (BKM) and the Deutsche Filmakademie are the organisers of the Lola Awards, film funds Filmförderungsanstalt (FFA) and Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg are the main financial sponsors of the event.

The uncontested biggest winner of the evening was September 5 [+lire aussi :

by Tim Fehlbaum. In this thriller, the German-based Swiss director tells the true story of an event that occurred in 1972 during the Munich Olympics, when hostages were taken in the Israeli and Palestinian quarters of the Olympic village. The movie was made in the English language, since it is set in the TV studios of a US channel reporting on the games. It brings together a series of international actors in the main roles, such as the USA’s John Magaro and Peter Sarsgaard, as well as Brit Ben Chaplin and German actress Leonie Benesch. Since its premiere at Venice, the film has been travelling internationally and has garnered many awards, such as the Los Angeles Film Critics Association Award for Best Editing. It was nominated for the Golden Globes and for the Oscars. In Germany, it has already won the Bavarian Film Prize for Best Film, and now, it has taken home no fewer than ten Lolas.

Indeed, September 5 won the Golden Lola for Best Feature Film, the Lolas for Best Directing and Best Screenplay (which went to director Tim Fehlbaum and his co-writer, Moritz Binder), as well as the Lola for Best Supporting Role, which was given to Leonie Benesch (who also recently appeared in Late Shift [+lire aussi :

More gongs went to the film's editor, Hansjörg Weißbrich, as well as to sound designers Lars Ginzel, Frank Kruse, Marc Parisotto and Marco Hanelt. The film's set designers, Julian R Wagner and Melanie Raab, took home a prize, as did its make-up artist, Sabine Schumann.

Nevertheless, a few more Lolas were awarded to other films. The Silver Lola for Best Feature Film went to Mohammad Rasoulof's The Seed of the Sacred Fig [+lire aussi :
