Greek director and musician Alexandros Voulgaris, known by his musical alias The Boy, is set to unveil his latest feature, They Come Out of Margo (Βγαίνουν Μέσα απ' τη Μάργκο), at the 59th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, running from 4-12 July (see the news). The film will have its world premiere in the Proxima Competition.
This marks Voulgaris’ eighth feature, continuing his exploration of hybrid forms and deeply introspective narratives. His previous works include Pink, which was also screened at Karlovy Vary in 2007, Higuita, Thread [+lire aussi :

They Come Out of Margo is described as a “tender horror flick” and an “experimental melodrama”, thus defying traditional genre labels. The story centres on Margo, a once-celebrated songwriter who now leads a reclusive life in her flat. As she turns 40, a birthday party becomes an unlikely catalyst for transformation, forcing her to confront buried anxieties, creative despair and latent desires.
The ensemble cast is led by Sofia Kokkali (Digger [+lire aussi :

As in all of his previous works, Voulgaris not only directed the film, but also penned the screenplay. He also composed part of the original score – in collaboration with Miss Trichromi – and took on editing and sound design duties, further underlining the auteur’s all-encompassing creative vision.
The film was shot on location in Athens and features a series of Voulgaris’ regular collaborators. It was lensed by acclaimed cinematographer Simos Sarketzis (Winona, Behind the Haystacks [+lire aussi :

They Come Out of Margo is being produced by Nicholas Alavanos and Christina Stavropoulou for Athens-based FILMIKI Productions SA, one of Greece’s longest-running independent production companies. The project received support from the Hellenic Film and Audiovisual Center – Creative Greece and was presented and rewarded in the Thessaloniki International Film Festival’s Agora. International sales and distribution plans are yet to be announced.
