). The film is being produced by Carlo Degli Esposti, Nicola Serra and Marco Grifoni on behalf of Palomar (of the Mediawan group), and by Massimiliano Orfei, Luisa Borella and Davide Novelli for PiperFilm, in collaboration with Making Movies & Events.

Albanese signs his name to the story and the screenplay, together with Piero Guerrera, and he also stars in his film alongside Giuseppe Battiston, Nicola Rignanese and Niccolò Ferrero. Qui non succede niente follows three friends, Beppe, Umberto and Gigi, who are waiting for young Toni to arrive in order to celebrate his newfound freedom. Umberto is a failed musician who’s run his father’s business into the ground and has already separated from two partners. Gigi has just been disinherited by his aunt, he’s drunk and he’s wearing one of her old wigs in protest. Beppe has a very burdensome mother, he’s a plumber and it’s said he’s never had a girlfriend. Toni, Umberto’s son, is almost too smart for his own good, shuttling in and out of jail for small offences. In other words, they’re the most messed up of friendship groups inhabiting an unchanging microcosm set against a jarringly splendid lake landscape.

But something’s about to happen. A catastrophe with overwhelming yet hilarious consequences. After an alcohol-heavy evening at a local bar, the car they’re driving home in hits something. Or rather, someone. Kicking off a series of relentlessly misguided choices, the four of them flee the scene and take refuge in Umberto’s house. A long night ensues, rife with twists and turns, paradoxical and ridiculous situations and encounters and clashes between the protagonists and the other unlikely characters populating this never-ending day. That is, until the most unimaginable of solutions rears its head at the first light of dawn.

Filming will take place around Lake Orta in Piedmont over an 8-week period. Photography is by Italo Petriccione, set design is curated by Marco Belluzzi, costumes fall to Carola Fenocchio and editing to Davide Miele. The film will be distributed in Italian cinemas by PiperFilm.

Qui non succede niente is being made with support from the Film and Audiovisual Investment Development Fund, managed by the Italian Ministry for Culture’s Film and Audiovisual Department, and with backing from Piedmont’s European Regional Development Fund (PR FESR Piemonte) 2021-2027 in response to an application to the “Piemonte Film TV Fund”, with support from the Film Commission Torino Piemonte.
