Cinco minutos más tells the story of a couple in crisis who decide to spend a weekend as rural tourists in an isolated house in the countryside. There, they meet an agent who shows them around and hands over the keys. But before he leaves them alone, something extraordinary happens: the entire world falls into a time loop. The final five minutes repeat over and over, as if a record needle were skipping. This is the premise of the Movistar Plus+ original, written by and starring Berto Romero, which began shooting last week in Girona, directed by Javier Ruiz Caldera.
The film marks another collaboration between the filmmaker and the comedian, one of his regular partners, whom he has directed in the series The Other Side and Mira lo que has hecho, and in hit features such as Spanish Movie, 3 Many Weddings, Spy Time, Superlópez and Wolfgang. Among Ruiz Caldera’s standout big-screen credits are also Ghost Graduation and the war satire Malnazidos (co-directed with Alberto de Toro).
Actors Javier Cámara (two-time Goya winner for Living Is Easy with Eyes Closed and Truman, recently seen in the series Rapa and the feature Stories Not to Be Told) and Belén Cuesta (Goya winner for The Endless Trench, and who was in the recently released shows Las largas sombras and Cristóbal Balenciaga) round off the leading trio in this singular take on the apocalypse. In supporting roles we will see Carlos Bernardino (who has just premiered the spirited series Fate), Marc Soler, Clàudia Melo, Puchi Lagarde, Tian Tosas and Nia Tosas.
The producers of Cinco minutos más are Edmon Roch for Ikiru Films, Laura Fernández Espeso, Berto Romero and Javier Méndez for El Terrat (The Mediapro Studio), as well as Guillermo Farré and Fran Araújo for Movistar Plus+. Clara Valle (El Terrat) serves as executive producer. International sales and Spanish distribution will be handled by Filmax.
