The team has been at work since spring amid the island’s arid landscapes, which, together with Las Palmas, serve as the backdrop to this dystopia charting the odyssey of an astronaut lost in the desert. Starring Daniela Brown (Holy Mother [+lire aussi :

Written by Moreno himself, the film follows Ana, who must undergo a lengthy isolation exercise to prepare for a possible mission to Mars. Under the intense physical and psychological pressure of her training, the astronaut ventures into the desert, where she meets a nomadic shepherd travelling with her goat. Unable to communicate verbally, Ana tries to find her way back to the base, but the shepherd senses that the astronaut is wrestling with inner demons. Offering her food and water, the woman leads Ana deep into a cave to perform a healing ritual, altering the astronaut’s view of her home planet and her connection with the cosmos.
According to the Tenerife-born filmmaker: “Shooting The Outside has been a great experience. After five years, being able to translate the story that was in my head into images and sounds has made me very happy. I have had a fantastic technical and artistic team fully devoted to the production. What’s more, filming in chronological order allowed me to move forward with the shoot exactly as the protagonist did. It’s something I would like to repeat in future, as it helps the actors and the crew a great deal. Despite the usual difficulties inherent in a shoot, I’m very pleased with how everything turned out. We have a strong film on our hands.”
Executive producer Silvia Sánchez, of Womack Studios, adds: “It’s very exciting to see how, after five years of hard work, we’ve made this movie a reality. It’s been a long journey that we still have to complete in post-production, but right now, we’re delighted with the result, as it offers a different kind of science fiction, led by two women and drawing on the Mars-like beauty of some parts of the Canary Islands.”
The Outside, which was rewarded as a project at Abycine Lanza and Mecas, and which took part in the 2022 Torino Script Lab, among other events, is being produced by Womack Studios and KV Films. It has received support from the ICAA, the Government of the Canary Islands and the Cabildo of Tenerife, with the collaboration of the Environmental Department of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, and the municipalities of Puerto del Rosario and La Oliva.
