Dutch filmmaker Michiel ten Horn is currently finishing work on his first English-language feature, Any Other Night, led by Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black, She-Hulk) and Marwan Kenzari (The Old Guard, Aladdin). The project is now in post-production and is being brought to the market by sales agent Lucky Number, which is presenting an exclusive promo reel to buyers at this year’s American Film Market (11-16 November). The news was first reported by Variety.

Shot earlier this year in Berlin, Any Other Night marks ten Horn’s follow-up to Fabula, which opened the Tiger Competition at IFFR and later screened at Shanghai. His previous credits also include the Netflix horror series Ares, and he was selected as one of Variety’s ten European Directors to Watch in 2013.

Penned by Patrick Whistler (In Cold Light), the film unfolds over the course of a single night. Maslany plays Maggie, recently abandoned and caught in emotional free fall, while Kenzari portrays Sam, a former musician now driving a taxi. What begins as an ordinary late-night ride gradually becomes a prolonged, wayward journey across the city, compelling both characters to confront personal failures and lingering disappointments.

Speaking about the project, ten Horn notes that the film examines what follows once youthful aspirations have dimmed: “Any Other Night explores what happens after you’ve chased your big dreams and realised this isn’t ‘it’. Life isn’t a romcom; it’s far more complicated. Yet sometimes, one special encounter can shift your perspective.”

Any Other Night is being produced by Lithium Studios (Canada), One Two Films (Germany), Lemming Film (Netherlands) and Film Forge (Canada). Elevation Pictures will handle distribution in Canada, Port-au-Prince in Germany and Austria, and The Searchers in the Benelux.
