) has soared to the top of the Spanish box office. The film was the most-watched title of the weekend, attracting 219,000 cinema-goers and grossing more than €1.63 million. With these outstanding results, the film has become the most successful opening for a Spanish production aimed at audiences aged 12 and over in the past seven years, and the strongest Spanish debut since last June, when Padre no hay más que uno 5: Nido repleto, by and starring Santiago Segura, was released.

This production by Globomedia (The Mediapro Studio) and Telecinco Cinema, with the participation of Mediaset España, Mediterráneo Mediaset España Group and Prime Video (the platform that will stream the film worldwide following its theatrical release), is distributed in Spain by Sony Pictures Entertainment Iberia and written by Paco León together with Fer Pérez. The project reunites almost the entire cast of the popular television series Aída: Carmen Machi, Paco León, Miren Ibarguren, Mariano Peña, Eduardo Casanova, Pepe Viyuela, Melani Olivares, Canco Rodríguez, Secun de la Rosa, David Castillo, Marisol Ayuso, Pepa Rus, Óscar Reyes and Adrián Gordillo (read more).

Blending fiction and meta-cinema, the film follows the shooting of an episode of the series Aída, playfully intertwining the characters and their actors in front of and behind the camera. This approach opens the door to reflections on topics such as the limits of humour, the craft of comedians and the nature of fame.

The film is also making its international debut this week, with premieres scheduled for 6 February in major US cities including New York, Miami, Orlando and Los Angeles, and on 5 February in Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and Central American countries such as Costa Rica, Guatemala, El Salvador and Panama. These releases are handled by international distributor Wiesner Distribution. The Mediapro Studio Distribution manages the film’s international distribution rights.

In addition, Comscore announced yesterday that Spanish cinemas welcomed more than seven million viewers in January 2026 — the best January attendance since 2020. Four Spanish productions made it into the month’s top ten alongside major Hollywood titles such as the latest instalment of the Avatar saga: Abuela de verano, Band Together [+lire aussi :

, Ídolos and Aída: The Movie, all of which have already surpassed €1 million at the box office. These results offer a welcome boost after a difficult 2025 for Spanish cinema, a year that closed with an 8% drop in audience numbers compared to the previous year (read more).
