Netflix et EKKOMED lancent une initiative pour former les créateurs audiovisuels grecs

The Hellenic Film and Audiovisual Center (EKKOMED) and Netflix have announced a new partnership aimed at supporting the professional development of Greek audiovisual creators. Formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the collaboration will provide selected Greek screenwriters and directors with access to Netflix’s Digital Training Platform, which includes curated modules, tutorials, interviews, and masterclasses with international showrunners and industry professionals.
According to EKKOMED and the official announcement, the initiative is part of Greece’s ongoing strategy to consolidate the audiovisual sector as a driver of professional development and international competitiveness. Over the past few years, EKKOMED and the Ministry of Culture have worked to build a supportive ecosystem combining incentive schemes, infrastructure development, and training programmes designed to attract international productions whilst nurturing domestic talent.
Deputy Minister of Culture Iason Fotilas highlighted that the creation and completion of EKKOMED marked a critical step in providing a structured framework for audiovisual creators. “This new collaboration with Netflix,” he enthused, “seals our strategic planning activities and places Greece at the forefront, offering tools and opportunities to creators and even greater momentum to the community.”
EKKOMED CEO Leonidas Christopoulos described the programme as a first-of-its-kind opportunity for the Greek industry. “It is the first time that Netflix’s digital training platform is being made available to creators across the industry rather than only those affiliated with Netflix’s shows or existing training initiatives.” He also added that: “This cooperation forms part of the Ministry of Culture’s broader strategy - consistently implemented by EKKOMED - to make the Greek audiovisual industry even more outward-looking and competitive. Through the transfer of know-how and alignment with the demands of the international market, we are investing in the country’s human capital and developing all aspects of the ecosystem holistically: from education and content development to international networking and sustainable production.”
Netflix’s Iole Maria Giannattasio, director of Global Affairs for Italy and Greece, claimed that the partnership reflects the platform’s commitment to supporting creative talent worldwide. She underlined that: “We are very pleased to collaborate with EKKOMED to support their pivotal mission to empower Greece's creative ecosystem, championing Greek screenwriters and directors, strengthening their creative potential, and helping them to further develop their craft.”
The programme’s participant selection and detailed rollout will be announced on EKKOMED’s website. According to the announcement, the initiative complements Greece’s existing policies, such as the audiovisual cash rebate scheme, which has supported more than 290 national and international projects since 2018, reinforcing the country’s efforts to establish itself as a competitive Mediterranean production hub (see the news).
