The movie stars Natalia Verbeke (seen recently in the series Billionaires' Bunker and the musical Todos los lados de la cama), Javier Rey (who has been appearing in theatres in the comedy My Wife Is a Ghost since last Friday), Susana Abaitua (nominated for a Goya Award in 2026 for She Walks in Darkness [+lire aussi :

Citas is a romantic comedy intertwining four realistic and aspirational stories centring on love in the modern day. Against the backdrop of Barcelona, the storylines unfold on one of its most emblematic dates: Sant Jordi, or Saint George’s Day, when the city overflows with books and roses. Four encounters will explore different sides of contemporary love: a case of infidelity about to come to light; a blind date plagued by doubt; one of Cupid’s arrows that misses its target, prompting a search; and a story that tests the limits of polyamory. 

Freixas remarks: “I’m a fan of romcoms, which are true antidotes to our humdrum routines and to the normality that can sometimes get unbearable. When you sit down to watch a decent romantic comedy, it suddenly jerks your feet off the ground and makes you feel so good. And who doesn’t want that to happen time and time again? Producing Citas is born of that urge – born of the desire to recreate that sensation, with a film that would entertain and move me, and make me laugh.”

Director Ferraté explains: “This is a tribute to the series, which works as a standalone feature and enables audiences to enjoy different love stories, because romantic comedies, society and the way we meet a partner have all moved on. Today, it’s unusual not to meet someone through an app, and here, there’s a reflection of the situations you can encounter through that and of the motivations driving anyone who decides to use one: what they’re looking for, the topics that get discussed first, that feeling of love at first sight when you meet someone special…”

Citas is a production by Carlos Fernández, Laura Ferández Brites and Pau Freixas for Filmax and Citas La Película AIE, in conjunction with Prime Video, which has secured funding from the ICAA. The movie will be released in Spanish cinemas courtesy of Filmax.
