Nessun dolore, on which filming is due to wrap in April, follows Davide whose life is overturned by a tragic event which he unwittingly caused. Consumed by guilt, this disturbing reality leads him to embark upon a series of seemingly senseless actions with grave consequences. But his strong emotional bond with Elsa might just help him find a peace he never expected.

The technical crew hasn’t been revealed but Amelio is presumably turning to his usual partners-in-crime from his recent films and documentaries, namely Luan Amelio Ujkaj on photography and Simona Paggi on editing.

Amelio previously directed the multi-award-winning movie, Open Doors, which was presented in the Cannes’ Directors’ Fortnight, crowned with the European Film Award for Best Film, and nominated for the Best Foreign Film Oscar in 1991. In 1992, he scooped the Grand Jury Prize in Cannes thanks to The Stolen Children, which also bagged the European Film Award for Best Film. In Venice, meanwhile, he won the Silver Lion for Best Director in 1994 via Lamerica and the Golden Lion in 1998 for Così ridevano.

Nessun dolore is produced by Simone Gattoni for Kavac Films and Mattia Guerra for Be Water, in league with Rai Cinema. World sales are entrusted to Rai Cinema International Distribution, while Italian distribution falls to 01 Distribution.
