30 international publishing houses and literary agents will take part in the eleventh edition of Venice Production Bridge’s Book Adaptation Rights Market (running 4 to 6 September), set to be held within the 83rd Venice Film Festival (unspooling 2 to 12 September).
Meetings with publishing houses and agents, selected by way of a call for tenders back in January, will take place in the Hotel Excelsior on Venice’s Lido and will provide producers looking for original intellectual property (IP) with an opportunity to close deals for the adaptation of novels, dramas, children’s books, short stories, comics, graphic novels, essays and biographies into films.
Unlike other publishing-focused initiatives in other film festivals, the Book Adaptation Rights Market allows invited publishing houses to bring their entire catalogue of works along to the event, rather than just one book or volume, in the hope that some of them will be transformed into film screenplays. A brochure listing all the publishers and literary agents, their new titles and their respective catalogues will be sent in advance to all registered producers.
The 30 publishers and literary agents selected for this year’s edition of the Book Adaptation Rights Market are Alt Autores Editorial (Spain), Andrew Nurnberg Associates (England), BAO Publishing (Italy), Bonnier Rights Finland (Finland), BookEnds Literary (USA), Catrina Wessels Rights Management (South Africa), De Agostini Libri (Italy), Editorial Anagrama S.A.U. (Spain), Gaeb & Eggers Literary Agency (Germany), Gallucci Editore (Italy), GeMS - Gruppo Editoriale Mauri Spagnol (Italy), Giulio Einaudi Editore (Italy), Giunti Editore / Bompiani (Italy), Grand Agency (Sweden), Gruppo Feltrinelli (Italy), Klett-Cotta Verlag (Germany), Librairie Arthème Fayard (France), MalaTesta Literary Agency (Italy), Matriochkas, Books & Films Creative Bureau (France), MertinWitt Literary Agency (Germany), Mondadori Business Unit Ragazzi, Piemme, Sperling & Kupfer, Mondadori Electa (Italy), Mondadori Libri SpA (Italy), Otago Literary Agency (Italy), Peters Fraser and Dunlop (UK), Rizzoli (Italy), Rowohlt Verlag GmbH - Film Rights Agency (Germany), S.
