The Zurich Film Festival has announced a strategic partnership with TikTok for its upcoming 22nd edition, taking place from 24 September to 4 October, as the festival continues to expand its digital-first strategy. The collaboration aims to extend the festival experience beyond Zurich by bringing live coverage of the event to TikTok's global audience of more than one billion users through TikTok LIVE and exclusive behind-the-scenes content.
Under the agreement, TikTok becomes the festival's official partner and will connect the ZFF with the platform's global #FilmTok community while introducing new live and interactive formats. Central to the initiative is a dedicated TikTok LIVE programme, with two creators reporting directly from the festival's fan zone and the Green Carpet press line, offering audiences real-time access to premieres, arrivals and the festival atmosphere. The activation will also include an accompanying TikTok LIVE campaign and an off-platform promotional campaign intended to amplify the festival's existing content and reach new audiences.
According to the organisers, the partnership marks another milestone in the festival's new-media strategy, which seeks to position the ZFF as a year-round digital brand while attracting younger audiences. The festival highlighted the progress of this strategy, noting that during last year's edition it generated approximately 12 million impressions across its owned social-media channels. Thanks to a year-round content strategy, its monthly reach tripled compared to the previous year, while its cross-platform community grew from 163,000 to more than 207,000 followers as of July 2026.
The festival also cited data underlining TikTok's growing influence on film discovery, noting that users shared an average of 6.5 million film- and television-related posts per day in 2025, while 15 of the 20 highest-grossing films in German cinemas last year had gone viral on the platform.
“The Zurich Film Festival stands for outstanding films, international encounters and unforgettable moments. Under this year's theme, Dream Big, we want to make these stories and emotions resonate far beyond Zurich. Through TikTok, we can now share these moments more directly than ever with audiences around the world,” said Mehmet Inan, managing director of Spoundation Motion Picture AG. “This partnership is a key pillar of our new-media strategy and enables us to reach younger audiences where they discover films, stories and cultural experiences today. Together, we are making the festival a live, authentic, real-time experience for film lovers across the globe,” he continued.
