On 21 and 22 September, the ten projects selected for WIP Europa and WIP Latam will be presented to industry professionals, as part of the industry activities of the 74th San Sebastián International Film Festival (18-26 September).

Four European features in post-production will vie for the WIP Europa Industry Award, which covers the post-production of a film up to and including a DCP subtitled in English and Spanish, plus its distribution in Spain. They will also be eligible for the WIP Europa Award (€10,000 for the winner of the WIP Europa Industry Award).

Three debut features are on the menu: In a Manner of Speaking by Kosovar director Val Jashari, which follows a man accused of murder in the USA who has been hiding in Pristina for three years; Familiar Feelings by Portuguese filmmaker Mónica Lima, about the rocky homecoming of a not-so-successful actress; and The First Week of August by Croatian helmer Filip Mojzes, portraying the collapse of an apparently exemplary upper-middle-class family following a violent incident. Rounding off the selection is Turkish filmmaker M Tayfur Aydin (Far Away), who will bring along his fourth feature, The Battle of Hedgehogs, about family conflicts erupting over an inheritance in an Anatolian village.

Meanwhile, six Latin American titles in post-production will be presented between 21 and 23 September in the WIP Latam section, competing for the WIP Latam Industry Award, which covers the post-production of one of the films up to and including a DCP subtitled in English, plus its distribution in Spain, and for the EGEDA Platino Industria Award for Best WIP Latam, endowed with €30,000 gross for the majority producer of the winning film.

In this section, Mexican-Salvadoran director Tatiana Huezo (Prayers for the Stolen, The Echo) will showcase Galerna, which follows two characters from different backgrounds who travel across Mexico in search of non-professional actors for a sci-fi project. Colombian filmmaker Juan Sebastián Mesa (Los nadie, The Rust) will present his third feature, Lovers Go Home!, about the virtual relationship between a Medellín webcam model and a US war veteran. Brazil's Beatriz Seigner (Los Silencios) will take part with The Last Song of the Birds, which charts the journey of a sound archaeologist and her son to the place where she was born in order to reconnect with the father. And Argentinian director Mariano Luque (Salsipuedes) will unveil Travel & Pleasure, about a fading TV presenter who persuades a friend to accompany him to shoot a new episode of his show.

Finally, the WIP Latam selection will mark the first participation in San Sebastián for Argentinian filmmaker Matías Italo Scarvaci and Colombia’s Tiagx Vélez. The former will present The Criminal Matter, a game of mirrors between a public jury and a parallel jury that must pass judgement on a homicide case; and the latter will take part with All the Places to Go, which follows a young man who, after his boyfriend disappears at a techno party, clings to the images saved on his phone and searches for his presence among lovers, strangers and memories.
