The Manaki Brothers International Cinematographers’ Film Festival has unveiled the programme for its upcoming 47th edition, set to take place in Bitola (North Macedonia) from 19-25 September. This year’s selection follows what the organisers describe as the largest number of submissions in the history of the festival.

Twelve of these titles have made it into the main competition. Academy Award-winning cinematographer Wally Pfister, serving as chair of the jury, will hand out the Golden, Silver and Bronze Camera 300 Awards alongside four other film-industry professionals. During the opening ceremony, world-renowned Danish cinematographer Dan Laustsen will receive the Golden Camera 300 for his contribution to world cinema.

The programme also includes dedicated sections for documentaries, shorts and student films. The Adriatic Audience Award (AAA) strand will showcase five films carefully selected by the Creative Europe - MEDIA-supported Adriatic Region Festival Network. The line-up is rounded off by the Makpoint section (focusing on local productions), a special selection and a programme aimed at younger audiences.

Alongside the screenings, the festival will also feature a series of panels, industry events and master classes, including one with Laustsen. Cinematographer Suki Medencevic will also be on site to discuss his work on Shining Vale. Other events include a panel on women in cinematography and a discussion on analogue and digital processes led by Johannes Louis and senior digital colourist Dirk Meier.

Jean-Marie Droujou, Juliette Van Dormael and Tommaso Fiorilli will participate in a session dedicated to shooting during the “magic hour”. Further presentations and events will involve ARRI, LEITZ, Imago, UCO and ASC-awarded cinematographer Boris Mojsovski.

The festival is also organising two three-day workshops for film students. Manaki Next Generation, promoted by Creative Europe - MEDIA through the aforementioned Adriatic Region Festival Network, will focus on the theme of “Sound Pollution”. Finally, a collaboration between INSAS and Erasmus will bring together students from the INSAS film school (Belgium), and mentors Hichame Alaouie and Fejmi Daut, the cinematographer on Honeyland.
