The MEDIMED Euro-Mediterranean Documentary Market is gearing up for its 27th edition, which will take place in Sitges (near Barcelona) from 8-11 October. A total of 70 documentary projects from 24 countries have been selected for the 2026 gathering, spanning the Pitching Forum, Rough Cut Advisory Meetings, Speedy Pitch Meetings and the Co-Producers Wanted Pitch.

The market will once again bring filmmakers and producers together with international decision makers in search of co-production, financing, distribution and broadcasting opportunities. The professionals confirmed for this year’s edition represent organisations including 2M TV, 3CAT, Al Arabiya, Al Jazeera Network, Al Jazeera English, American Documentary, ARTE, BBC Storyville, BBC Arabic, France Télévisions, KBS World, Movistar Plus, POV, Public Sénat, RTP, RTS, SVT, TG4, TRT World, TV Polska and TVE.

At the heart of the programme is the Pitching Forum, which will present 21 projects and will be moderated by Margje de Koning. Among the titles highlighted by the organisers is Anywhere But Here, which follows young migrants who arrived in Sweden as teenagers in 2015 and are subsequently forced to leave the country; At the Tipping Point, centred on a critical moment in which history accelerates and political choices acquire far-reaching consequences, and following Hadja Lahbib, the first woman of colour to take office as a European Commissioner, and her commitment to dialogue; Middle East: The Endless War, brought to the forum by Serge Gordey, which examines the increasingly antagonistic relationship between Iran, the USA and Israel, and the role of the three powers in reshaping the political and military landscape of the Middle East; and Woman in the Sun, following a divorced mother of three living in a small village 400 km from the Moroccan capital, where transformations to the surrounding landscape threaten the future of her community.

Beyond the main forum, MEDIMED will host its Anti Pitch Programme, consisting of Rough Cut Advisory Meetings for 14 selected projects. Among them is On the Bicycle, a portrait of a Cairo cyclist who carries bread on his head; and Out of Place, which follows a filmmaker returning to Gaza in 2021 after years in exile.

A further 25 projects from 15 countries will take part in the Speedy Pitch Meetings, a series of 15-minute encounters with financiers, distributors, acquisition executives and sales agents. This year’s programme also includes the Co-Producers Wanted Pitch, a new format connecting established European and Mediterranean producers seeking new projects to co-produce. Eleven projects from seven countries will participate in the initiative.

In parallel, the Digital Docs Gallery will make more than 250 recently completed documentaries from 50 countries in the Euro-Mediterranean region available to selected international acquisition executives and sales agents. The catalogue includes several projects previously presented at MEDIMED, such as Kalari Kid, produced by First Hand Films and pitched in 2024; Rebel, staged by Kaboga Art & Films and pitched in 2023; and My Family and Other Clowns, produced by Silmviburlane and pitched in 2025.
