Irish actress Niamh Algar (The Iris Affair, Malpractice, Mary & George) and French thesp Fanny Ardant (The Woman Next Door, 8 Women) lead the cast of Harmonia, a six-part psychological thriller that has started filming in Greece, directed by Greek filmmaker Lefteris Charitos.

The predominantly English-language series is set in a high-end luxury resort and wellness facility run by artificial intelligence, where technology meets escapism and every guest's desire can be fulfilled. It reflects things we all aspire to, but also fear. It's a modern-day Frankenstein story about a scientist who would be God and her extraordinary creation, where it becomes increasingly unclear whether it’s AI or humans that are the real monster.

Algar plays Shona Casey, the scientist who created the resort’s AI system, while Ardant portrays the establishment’s former owner. The ensemble also includes Chloe Lea (Dune: Prophecy), who plays a young member of staff who becomes the focus of the AI’s growing obsession, alongside Oliver Chris (Rivals), Abubakar Salim (House of the Dragon), Goran Bogdan (The Last Panthers), Theo Augier (XO Kitty) and George Ioannides (Industry). Greek actors Pygmalion Dadakaridis (The Other Me), Konstantinos Zografos (The Judge) and Antigoni Fryda (Grand Hotel) also feature, alongside newcomer Zoe-Stella Nikolaou.

Created by Charitos, Peter Carlton, Amanda Livanou and Hanna Jameson, the series takes its inspiration from Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, exploring the uneasy relationship between a scientist and her creation, and questioning where responsibility lies when technology begins to develop a will of its own. Jameson, the author of the book The Last and a screenwriter on the forthcoming Netflix series The Undertow, serves as lead writer, with additional episodes written by Alki Papastathopoulos and Panayotis Christopoulos. Charitos, whose credits include one of Greece’s most successful television dramas, Wild Bees, directs all six episodes. Shooting takes place on location in Athens, at Cape Sounio resort and Kapa2 Studios.

Harmonia is a co-production involving UK outfit Warp Films, whose recent credits include the Netflix hit Adolescence, and Athens-based Neda Film, in association with Greek public broadcaster ERT and ITV Studios. The latter is also handling international distribution. Executive producers are Carlton and Peter Balm for Warp Films; Livanou and Isavella Alopoudi for Neda Film; and Charitos, Jameson and Algar. The production benefits from Greece’s audiovisual production incentive, while development support came from the Hellenic Film and Audiovisual Fund and Creative Europe – MEDIA. The project was previously presented at the 2023 Drama Co-Production Market Pitch Forum, organised by MIA – Mercato Internazionale Audiovisivo in Rome. Harmonia is scheduled to premiere on ERT in 2027.
