Vent de surprise ce midi à Paris avec la révélation de l’identité des sélectionnés pour la compétition officielle de la 60e édition du Festival de Cannes (du 16 au 27 mai).

Dévoilée ce midi par Thierry Frémeaux, le directeur artistique du festival, la liste de 22 films inclut de nombreux jeunes cinéastes et ne comprend pas les attendus Kitano, Hou Hsiao Hsien, Roy Andersson, Claude Miller ou Todd Haynes. Un duel se profile entre Europe et Etats-Unis qui comptent respectivement dix et six sélectionnés, arbitré par quatre Asiatiques seulement (le Chinois Wong Kar Wai en ouverture, la Japonaise Naomi Kawase et les Coreéens Lee Chang-dong et Kim Ki-duk), un Mexicain (Carlos Reygadas) et un inattendu franco-israélien (Raphael Nadjari). Et l’Est du Vieux continent débarque en force avec le Bosniaque Emir Kusturica, le Hongrois Bela Tarr, la surprise roumaine Cristian Mungiu et les deux russes Andrey Zvyagintsev et Alexandre Sokourov. S’y ajoutent le turco allemand Fatih Akin et l’Autrichien Ulrich Seidl, sans oublier la délégation française incluant Christophe Honoré, Catherine Breillat et le duo Marjane Satrapi - Vincent Paronnaud avec un film d’animation. Mais les Américains tiennent aussi le haut de l’affiche avec les habitués Gus Van Sant, Quentin Tarantino et les frères Coen accompagnés par James Gray, David Fincher et Julian Schnabel (pour une production française). A noter également la présence hors compétition du Britannique Michael Winterbottom et des stars US Michael Moore et Steven Soderbergh, pour une édition du festival placée sous le signe de l’audace.
