In the second episode of the second season of EAVE IMPACT ONE-TO-ONE (see the news), Qatari illustrator, animation director and founder of the Doha-based Blue Penguin Animation production studio Aisha Al-Jaidah and Yohann Comte, co-founder of French sales and co-production company Charades, explore the challenges of producing animated films for an adult audience.
Taking as their starting point the Grand Prix Award in the Cannes Critics’ Week for Jérémy Clapin’s animated feature I Lost My Body [+leggi anche:

scheda film], which is being sold by Charades and was also bought by Netflix, the experts discuss how difficult it is to make an animated feature film for adults that is not political. They also delve further into the question of whether this is the golden age for animated TV series in Europe and abroad. Meanwhile, they also weigh up the differences in funding between France, which has a specific financing system for animation, and Qatar, where the approach is not the same. On the topic of producing, Al-Jaidah mentions: “One of the perks or challenges of doing animation is that you can have different locations to produce the same film.”
