Since 2010, French cinema has been able to boast a significant number of women directors who have shot more than three fiction feature films, earning themselves recognition from the film industry as well as numerous awards in major international festivals. This relatively unique French phenomenon - compared to other countries where parity is still proving a struggle - gave the team at the Forum des Images in Paris the idea for an unprecedented celebration of 10 French contemporary women directors hailing from the same generation.

Entitled "They’re here to stay", this event comprising over 100 films will kick off on Wednesday 4 December for four months and will be opened with a screening of The Quiet Son [+leggi anche:

by Delphine and Muriel Coulin (which scooped the Best Actor Prize in Venice for Vincent Lindon and is due for release in France on 22 January).

The festival will see Rebecca Zlotowski, Alice Diop, Sophie Letourneur, Jeanne Herry, Blandine Lenoir, Mia Hansen-Løve, Valérie Donzelli, Alice Winocour, and Delphine and Muriel Coulin taking turns to step into the limelight at the Forum des Images, with an identical programme for each of them: a retrospective (of each of the directors’ feature films, sometimes their short films and even their series, such as Savages [+leggi anche:

), a meeting in which each filmmaker will speak of their work and journey in the company of members of their artistic teams, a film lesson analysing each of the directors’ filmographies, and a carte blanche session of 5 to 10 films chosen by each director.

Last but not least, the future of female-driven cinema will also be coming under scrutiny since each of the honoured filmmakers will be foregrounding young women directors who are currently on their first feature films, such as Lola Quivoron with Rodéo [+leggi anche:
