Although during the first six months of 2015 Norwegian cinemas recorded 5.1 million admissions – 1.2% up from last year and the best result in five years – the local market share fell to 3.8%, the lowest for years (the exact number is unclear because these statistics were not digitised until 2001). In 2014, Norwegian productions controlled 24.4% of the market.

US titles, sitting at numbers 1 to 3 on the charts with Sam Taylor-Johnson’s Fifty Shades of Grey, James Wan’s Furious Seven/Fast and Furious 7 and Colin Trevorrow’s Jurassic World, were the driving force behind the increased sales – there were no local features in the top ten.

“However, Norwegian films will strike back in the second half of the year,” said Birgitte Langballe, head of communications at Norwegian cinema association Film & Kino. She added that there are strong expectations for the box-office performances of Roar Uthaug’s The Wave [+leggi anche:
