The 13th CPH:DOX - Copenhagen International Documentary Film Festival, which closed on 15 November, registered a record number of 91,400 admissions and is now one of the largest documentary showcases in the world. In order to grow further, it will move from November to the spring – the next festival will thus take place from 16-26 March 2017.

"CPH:DOX has taken place in the week before Amsterdam's IDFA since the very beginning without too many overlaps and complications, but with the latest year's increase in international industry attendance, we need more space around us," said festival director Tine Fischer. Admissions have almost doubled since they reached 47,000 in 2011.

"Moving from its current position in November to the spring is more than just a change in the calendar. The ambition of CPH:DOX to be a leading event remains intact – ideally, CPH:DOX opens the documentary year, and IDFA closes it," added the CEO of the Copenhagen Film Festivals organisation, Steffen Andersen-Møller

The CPH PIX - Copenhagen International Film Festival had already slated its eighth edition for 14-27 April 2016, when it announced yesterday (25 November) that it would merge with the Buster International Children's Film Festival and unspool during late autumn, with the exact dates still to be confirmed.

"The new festival combines programmes and activities that complement each other perfectly, taking place in both the daytime and the nighttime, and also blends two different audience groups. It is possible to retain both, not to downsize, but to combine, so that it will benefit both events," the organisation explained. This year's CPH PIX (in April) sold 55,000 tickets, and Buster (in September) 37,700.
