“These talented young filmmakers are on the verge of making their first feature,” stated van Groeningen, who shared with them his expertise in distribution, marketing, how to work with a producer as well as film financing. “My path was to make my first film pretty quickly and not with a great deal of ambition money-wise,” reported the filmmaker.
“Felix van Groeningen warned us that when you write your first feature film, you can easily get stuck,” remarked Polish film graduate Klara Kochánska, who knows this from her own experience. “I rewrote my first 30 pages four times. When I was editing my film, I realised what is important for script-writing.”
Another Future Frames workshop was given by Katriel Schory, executive director of the Israel Film Fund, who advised the up-and-coming filmmakers that they need to choose the right crew members. “A film is like a train: if it runs away, you can’t stop it, and if you make bad choices, it is not so easy to change that.” German filmmaker Clemens Pichler appreciates being part of the talent pool: “The Future Frames programme is very inspiring,” summed up the student.
