scheda film]) to serve as the godfather of this edition, following in the footsteps of previous incumbents Brillante Mendoza, Jia Zhang-ke, Claire Denis, Juliette Binoche, Abderrahmane Sissako and Walter Salles, among others.
The event run by the Institut français, and formerly called La Fabrique des Cinémas du Monde, is a programme for scouting and promoting filmmakers and producers from southern and emerging countries, and offers bespoke support for first or second feature-length projects, in close collaboration with the Cannes Film Festival, the Film Market and an array of professional partners.
Since it was founded in 2009, almost 40% of the 91 projects selected have been completed, resulting in a finished film. This year, standing out among the ten projects accepted are nine fiction titles and one documentary; six are feature debuts, and four are second features.
