Slovakian public broadcaster Radio and Television Slovakia has licensed its original-programming crime series Inspector Max to Videoplugger Ltd. Videoplugger’s activities include sourcing international television series as well as “innovative, creative and original independent films, documentaries, and series that appeal to worldwide audiences”, according to its website. The firm has clients in more than 100 countries, and its catalogue contains the Estonian series The Bank, Spain’s Matalobos, Portugal’s House of Cais and Ireland’s Grace Harte, among others.
The latest arrival on its slate, Inspector Max, follows rebellious forensic investigator Zoltán Max, who works as a crime-scene investigator in Prague, delving into crimes committed in both the Czech Republic and Slovakia. According to Radio and Television Slovakia, the performance by seasoned Slovakian actor Juraj Kukura was one of the main decisive factors in the deal. Kukura is an accomplished theatre, film and television thesp who has starred in both domestic and German projects. He also appeared in Alain Robbe-Grillet’s film Eden and After early on in his career. Inspector Max will be the freshest addition to the schedules of US national television channel MHz Worldview, which belongs to media company MHz Networks.
Inspector Max is a co-production by Radio and Television Slovakia, Czech Television and Slovak production outfit TRIGON Production. The Slovak Audiovisual Fund supported the project. The 11-episode miniseries is based on an idea by Juraj Kukura and Ivan Hubač, and is directed by Czech helmers Jiří Chlumský and Petr Nikolaev. The series has already aired in Slovakia and the Czech Republic. Inspector Max was in production for four years and was shot at 200 locations, featuring 147 actors and 77 episodic characters.
