Last year it was French star Isabelle Huppert who graced the official poster of the San Sebastián International Film Festival, and now Madrid-born Penélope Cruz has been chosen for this particular honour for the 67^th edition of the gathering, which will unspool from 20-28 September this year. In addition, Cruz will be handed the Donostia Award for her contribution to film, a prize that has previously been bestowed upon other high-profile and eminent Spanish actors, such as Carmen Maura, Fernando Fernán Gómez, Antonio Banderas and Paco Rabal.

Upon receiving news of the honour, Penélope Cruz – who made her cinematic breakthrough in Jamón, jamón by the late Catalan genius Bigas Luna, won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in 2008 for her role as temperamental artist María Elena in the Spanish-US co-production Vicky Cristina Barcelona [+leggi anche:
