The Gan Foundation for Cinema, which has supported first and second feature films for over 30 years, has unveiled the list of the projects selected in 2019 to receive funding. ; on screens next year in Mon cousin) and Agathe Rousselle (in her first big screen appearance) in the leading roles. Written by the director, the script opens in an airport where customs officials pick up a young man with a bruised face. He claims his name to be Adrien Legrand, a child who disappeared ten years ago. For Vincent, his father, this marks the end of a long nightmare and he brings him home. Simultaneously, a series of gruesome murders puts the region under pressure. Alexia, model in a car showroom, has all the characteristics of the ideal victim… Produced by Jean-Christophe Reymond for Kazak Productions, Titane will be co-produced by Arte France Cinéma and by Belgian company Frakas Productions. Pre-bought by Arte, Canal+, Ciné+, the feature also benefits from the support of the advance on receipts from the CNC, of the Ile-de-France and Sud regions, and of Eurimages. French distribution will be handled by Diaphana, and international sales by Wild Bunch.

The 2019 selection of the Gan Foundation also includes Les Meilleures, the feature debut from Marion Desseigne Ravel, currently in post-production (read the news) and produced by the duo Emmanuel Barraux - Agnès Vallée for 31 Juin Films and by Delphine Schmit for Tripode Productions.

Two other feature debut projects have been selected. Bas étage from Yassine Qnia, currently filming (with Soufiane Guerrab and Souheila Yacoub in the lead roles), centres on thirty-something Mehdi as he tries to rebuild his relationship with Sarah, but who for the moment has nothing else to suggest except returning to live with him at his mother’s (production: Pascal Caucheteux for Why Not).

La Meute (La jauría) by Andrés Ramírez Pulido, meanwhile, will begin filming next spring and will tell the story of Eliu, incarcerated in an experimental centre for juvenile offenders. In the middle of the Colombian jungle, among other young detainees, they restore a hacienda that looks more like a golden cage — these teenagers evolve in a luxurious but hostile environment. As he is repenting for his mistakes, Eliu learns that his younger brother is in danger because of him and fears he may reproduce the same cycle of violence that led him to detention. Anger overwhelms him once again… The production is overseen by Jean-Etienne Brat and Lou Chicoteau for Alta Rocca Films with Valiente Gracia in co-production. French distribution and international sales are handled by Pyramide.

It is worth noting that the Special Prize of the Gan Foundation was given this year to the second part of Pierre-Henri Gibert’s L’Image originelle, in which international filmmakers talk about their formative experience making their first film.

Since its creation, the Gan Foundation for Cinema has supported more than 200 filmmakers (with films having won 39 César awards, 20 prizes in Cannes and more than 500 in the world). Among the supported works, some of note recently include Particles [+leggi anche:
