Created in response to the observation that women are still under-represented in certain areas of the filmmaking industry, the aim of the Sisley/Les Arcs Women in Film award, founded in 2013, is to raise awareness of this disparity among sector professionals, the media and the public at large. The prize will be presented on Sunday 15 December, on the occasion of the 11th Les Arcs Film Festival (running 14 - 21 December), to British director Sarah Gavron, whose film Rocks [+leggi anche:

(screened in competition in both Toronto and San Sebastian) is set to be shown in competition at the Alpine resort.

The Women in Film Lab, moreover, which was initiated in 2017 and which is the only event to reflect on the place of female directors in European cinema, will this year be offering two workshops, as well as a masterclass. The latter will be delivered by the French actress and director Julie Gayet, whose documentary FilmmakErs (co-directed with Mathieu Buisson) is set to be screened on 19 December.

Last but not least, following on from the creation of Cinema Green Lab, Tuesday 17 December will see the Les Arcs Film Festival present the first ever “environmental engagement” Film Award to the French trio composed of actor Guillaume Canet, director Édouard Bergeon and producer Christophe Rossignon (Nord-Ouest Films) for their title In The Name Of The Land [+leggi anche:

, which raised public awareness of the situation faced by farmers today (with 1.94 million admissions in France).
