GoCritic! is back with its second workshop at the World Festival of Animated Film Animafest Zagreb, which will take place from 8-13 June 2020.

After last year's successful edition, when six emerging film critics from four continents attended the festival, and published reviews, interviews and features on Cineuropa, we are again organising a workshop at the second-oldest film festival in the world completely dedicated to animation.

Launched thanks to the global reputation of the filmmakers sprung from the Zagreb School of Animation, and the result of a decision made by ASIFA (the International Animated Film Association), the Zagreb Film production company and the City of Zagreb, Animafest Zagreb takes place every year in early June. With over 400 films, symposia on contemporary animation studies, presentations, exhibitions, lectures and workshops, the festival will provide a comprehensive insight into contemporary animated production and celebrate its rich tradition. 

Animafest Zagreb GoCritic! will be tutored by Vladan Petković and coordinated by Marina Burić. Six participants will get the chance to see the best that world animation had to offer in the previous year, and meet both the crème de la crème of the global animation scene and vibrant new filmmakers. We will work on reviews, interviews and industry stories, and introduce new formats of articles particularly fitting for the animation form.

It is not necessary for the applicants to have experience in writing about animation, but we strongly encourage writers interested in this particular form to apply.

Animafest Zagreb is a fun and dynamic festival with many young guests, and it takes place during the best possible period of the year to be in Zagreb, meaning that, in addition to enjoying films and writing about them, our participants will also have a great time!
