Written by the director together with Sandra Tosello and Fabrice de Costil, the script is set in 1863 at the heart of a convoy in the American West. Martha Jane must learn to take care of horses so she can drive the family wagon. But she goes one step further and ends up wearing pants and cutting her hair. The scandal provoked by her strong character will force her to face all kinds of dangers, in a wild and gigantic world where everything is possible…

Produced by Henri Magalon (read our interview) and Claire Lacombe for Paris-based company Maybe Movies, Calamity, a Childhood of Martha Jane Cannary was co-produced by France 3 Cinéma and by Danish company Nørlum. Also pre-bought by Canal+ and Ciné+, the feature film was also supported by Eurimages, by the CNC’s advance on receipts, by the Ile-de-France and Nouvelle Aquitaine regions, and by Studio 2 Minutes. Sold by Indie Sales, the feature film will be distributed in France by Gebeka Films on 14 October.

The jury of the feature film competition has also handed a Special Mention to Kill It and Leave this Town [+leggi anche:
