), the script centres on a white director working with a troupe of Romas with severely underprivileged backgrounds. The troupe members are former heroin addicts, ex-homeless people, juvenile delinquents, victims of rape and abuse. The play they make together, entitled Gypsy Hungarian, presents with genuine sincerity the unvarnished truth of their real experiences — in other words, the play capitalises on their misery. Following one of their performances, the actors get tired of being taken advantage of and leave the troupe. They set out on an inner and outer journey into the unknown depths of their Roma consciousness but by doing so, they also present and reinforce a plethora of racist stereotypes. The only conclusion they arrive at is that the mutual enmity between minorities and the majority is inescapable, intolerable and inextricable. The troupe finally reunites out of practical reasons: the director and the play are invited to Berlin’s most prominent theatre and the prestigious festival promises to bring them all plenty of money and success…

According to Ádám Császi, the film’s main sources of inspiration are Federico Fellini’s  8 ½ and Ruben Östlund’s The Square [+leggi anche:

. It is also worth noting that the film’s provisory title (Ando Drom) is a reference to Jack Kerouac’s On the Road, in the sense that it is a portrait of a lost generation.
