is a coproduction between Spain and Uruguay, set in the run-up to Uruguay’s 1973 coup and starring Alberto AmmanJoaquín FurrielDaniel GraoSara SálamoMiguel Ángel Sola and Maribel Verdú. is the latest film from veteran director Fernando Colomo, featuring a cast led by Karra Elejalde, Quim Ávila, María Pedraza and Toni Acosta. The two premiers are among the highlights of this fifth edition of BCN Film Fest, which kicks into gear today, Thursday 15 April. A wide range of in-person events, hosted by cinemas across Barcelona, are on offer until 23 April.

Ticket holders are in for a treat, with a selection of other Spanish films including Crónica de una tormenta [+leggi anche:

, the début film from Argentinian director Mariana Barassi, produced by Tornasol, which pits Clara Lago against Ernesto Alterio in a virtuoso dialectical duel; Solo una vez, by Guillermo Ríos, starring Ariadna Gil and Álex García; and La passió segons Pep Amores, a comedy directed by Júlia Girós, Pol Picas and Nina Solà. Also featured is a short film by David Selvas and Taida Martínez, En mis manos, with Cristina Plazas in the leading role. What’s more, the festival will offer a sneak peak of new series Moebius, a coproduction between Verada TV and TV3 created by Eduard Cortés and Piti Español. The pilot episode of this thriller in ten nail-biting 40-minute parts will be screened in the Zona Abierta section.

The line-up for this year’s festival promises a cinematic feast of 60 films, including four world premieres, three European premieres, 17 new Spanish productions and seven from Catalonia. ) is to receive the Premi d’Honor, while the official jury will be headed up by actor and director Mario Gas, actress Laia Marull and filmmaker Jaume Balagueró — soon to unveil his latest project, Way Down (read more here). The fifth edition of BCN FILM FEST will be hosted by Cines Verdi, the Institut Français, CaixaForum and Casa Seat in Barcelona, in strict accordance with health and safety measures. Screenings will be subject to a maximum capacity in line with the regulations in force.
