Lumière is piloting a new accounting solution for Close, together with innovative tech company FilmChain, as well as for the distributor’s entire catalogue of films and TV series. The solution will use FilmChain’s latest royalties management system. In a fragmented landscape of financing and distribution, royalty recoupments entail an increased level of complexity. As the reporting obligations to licensors require scalable and efficient processes, forward-thinking distributors are adopting the change.

FilmChain launched the first automated collection account management service (CAM) for independent films. The platform makes royalty payments in real time, automating calculations, and recording transactions on blockchain, and works with reputable industry clients. Building on the success of its technology, it has expanded the solution to cater to content distributors, broadcasters, streamers and studios. FilmChain CAM currently has four client films in Cannes, three of which are in the Un Certain Regard section, and one is on the ACID programme.

The distributors' royalties management system has been developed with funding from the European Commission in an effort to enhance transparency and digitisation in the European film and TV industry.
