The development programme is supporting six projects: four feature films take part in the Development Lab and benefit from writing support, plus consultations on co-production and festival and market access strategy, while two projects at the editing stage take part in the First Cut Lab and, accompanied by an editing tutor, will receive feedback from industry professionals.
The Full Circle Lab Nouvelle-Aquitaine team, headed up by Matthieu Darras, with co-directors Alexis Hofmann and Myriam Sassine, mentioned that the selection homes in on auteurs based in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region or supported by partner organisations – for example, the Poitiers Film Festival’s Jump In. The two Development Lab residency sessions take place from 24-28 August at La Maison Forte in Monbalen and from 28 November-3 December in Poitiers.
The selection spans various genres, and includes drama, horror-thriller, coming-of-age, socially engaged and mystical films. Furthermore, half of the projects are French, and the other three hail from Brazil, Germany and Hungary. Four of the films are to be directed by women, which proves how much attention Full Circle Lab Nouvelle-Aquitaine pays to gender and diversity. The producers accompanying these projects are also equally split between men and women, with the majority of projects initiated by companies based in Nouvelle-Aquitaine, known for their appetite for co-productions. Based in Bordeaux and La Rochelle, three of the most active and prolific production companies in the region, Dublin Films (The Rust [+leggi anche:

Furthermore, four projects are feature debuts, and many of the filmmakers selected are actively working in the region: writers and directors Milena Beurer-Doenst, Jonathan Koulavsky, Claire Maugendre and Sébastien Jounel are all based in Nouvelle-Aquitaine. Also, more experienced filmmakers are attending, such as Brazilian director David Pretto, whose first two features were selected for the Berlinale, and French helmer Aurélien Vernhes-Lermusiaux, who won the Louis-Delluc Award for Best First Film with his debut feature, Towards the Battle [+leggi anche:

The projects in development will be mentored by Philippe Barrière, screenwriter and script consultant; Alexis Hofmann, head of acquisitions at French distributor BAC Films; and producer Myriam Sassine. Meanwhile, the projects in post-production will be mentored by editor Sebastian Sepulveda, editor and editing consultant Benjamin Mirguet, and editorial advisor Wim Vanacker. Distributors Patrick Sibourd (Nour Films) and Boris Pugnet (The Jokers) are among the industry advisors.
