. The statement read: “For the singular way it thinks about our current times by starting from the unthinkable, and connects the personal with the collective, society with history, and the inexplicable with the political necessity to find meaning.” 

Already distinguished with an impressive two awards in Venice (Grand Jury Prize and Lion of the Future) and chosen at the French candidate for Best International Film at the upcoming Oscars, Saint Omer (produced by SRAB Films and co-produced by Arte France Cinéma), will be released in French cinemas on 23 November by Les Films du Losange (who are also handling international sales).

Alice Diop thus joins the ranks of Jean-Luc Godard (the focus of a tribute last night), Maurice Pialat, Alain Resnais, Claude Chabrol, Philippe Garrel, Bruno Dumont, Olivier Assayas, Noémie Lvovsky, Patricia Mazuy, Katell Quillévéré, Laurent Cantet, Xavier Beauvois, Alain Guiraudie and Mathieu Amalric.

The 2022 Prix Jean Vigo for short film went to Virgil Vernier for Kindertotellieder (produced by Petit Film) and an Honorary Prix Jean Vigo was given to filmmaker and actor Jacques Nolot.
