Winner of the Golden Camera in Cannes in 1993 with The Scent of Green Papaya (which was presented in Un Certain Regard then won the 1994 César award for Best Feature Debut), then of the Golden Lion in Venice in 1995 with Cyclo, the French filmmaker of Vietnamese heritage Tran Anh Hung has returned to the Croisette (again in Un Certain Regard) in 2000 with The Vertical Ray of the Sun before once again returning to the Venice competition in 2010 with Norwegian Wood. This time, it is in Competition of the 76th Cannes Film Festival (16 to 27 May) that he will unveil his 7th feature film: The Passion of Dodin Bouffant.

Adapted by the director from the novel La vie et la passion de Dodin-Bouffant, gourmet by Marcel Rouf (published in 1924), the film is set in the 19th century. Eugénie has for 20 years worked as a cook under famous chef Dodin. Because they spend so much time in the kitchen together, a loving passion has grown between them. But Eugénie has always refused to marry Dodin, she wants to keep her freedom…

Produced by Olivier Delbosc for Curiosa Films, The Passion of Dodin Bouffant was co-produced by France 2 Cinéma, Gaumont (who will be handling French distribution and is selling the film internationally) and Belgium’s Umedia. Pre-bought by France Télévisions, Canal+ and Ciné+, the feature film was also supported by the Pays de la Loire region where filming took place, with Jonathan Ricquebourg (winner of the Lumière award for Best Cinematography for his work on Last Days of Louis XIV [+leggi anche:
