A few days ago, DocsBarcelona announced the titles taking part in its 26th edition (18-28 May), a showcase of the best of the world's documentary production that will include 26 feature films and eleven short films. The venues are the CCCB, Cine Aribau and Filmoteca de Catalunya and with the collaboration of Festival Scope a selection of the programme can be viewed on its platform. And this year, the organising team has new additions including the filmmaker Anna Petrus takes on the artistic direction and the cultural manager Xavier Conesa, the executive production. In addition, Isabel Coixet from Barcelona will chair the jury of the official Panorama section and will pay tribute to the Czech documentary filmmaker Helena Třeštíková, who will receive the Honorary Award and who will be the subject of a retrospective.

The festival will open with the Estonian production in competition Smoke Sauna Sisterhood [+leggi anche:

, by Anna Hints, best documentary director at the last Sundance Festival. Over eleven days, films will be shown covering a wide stylistic and thematic range, with a line related to patriarchal violence One such film is the opening film, as well as the British film Lyra, in which Alison Millar depicts an Irish journalist and LGBTQI+ activist murdered in 2019.

Also featured in the Panorama section is Polish Prayers [+leggi anche:

, by Hanka Nobis (Switzerland/Poland), about the contradictions of a young man who champions homophobia; and Who I Am Not [+leggi anche:

, the debut film for Romanian Tünde Skovrán, which goes beyond gender binarism, following the experiences of two intersex South Africans.

As every year, DocsBarcelona is committed to local talent, such as Finding La Singla [+leggi anche:

,  in which Paloma Zapata once again portrays a Spanish music icon (as with Peret [+leggi anche:

), with an unusual story: that of the deaf dancer Antonia Contreras, who participated in the legendary film Los Tarantos but mysteriously disappeared.

The Panorama section also includes two feature films about the war in Ukraine in competition: We Will Not Fade Away [+leggi anche:

(Ukraine/Poland/France), directed by Alisa Kovalenko, which portrays teenagers from Donbás who imagine better futures; and Motherland [+leggi anche:

, a portrait of contemporary Belarus and the violence that penetrates it, directed by Alexander Mihalkovich and Hanna Badziaka.

It will also showcase three proposals that use humour to explore the crisis of ideologies: Nikoloz Bezhanishvili's Georgian The Northeast Winds [+leggi anche:

focuses on nostalgic Stalinists who cannot accept that the world has changed; a portrait of religion and its conflict with earthly desires is Ahsen Nadeem’s offering in Crows Are White; and with the Hungarian Narrow Path to Happiness, Kata Oláh explains how a gay Roma couple tries to combat homophobia in their country. Magic Mountain (Georgia/Poland) by Mariam Chachia and Nick Voigt, and Against the Tide (India/France) by Sarvnik Kaur complete the official section. 

Finally, the DocsBarcelona market will be visited by thirty experts, representatives of television channels and platforms, international sales agents and investment funds. Financiers from Canada, Japan, Germany and other countries will take part virtually, along with representatives from international festivals and markets.
