At the 76th Cannes Film Festival, representatives of European film sales companies attended the 34th general assembly of Europa International, the European association of film sales agents, and elected their new representatives for a two-year mandate.

Alice Lesort, Head of International Sales at Les Films du Losange and Katarzyna Siniarska, Head of Sales at New Europe Film Sales saw their mandate of Co-Presidents of Europa International board renewed for another two years. They felt that “it was natural to be candidate again for Europa International Presidency in order to continue developing the projects we initiated during our first mandate and have a long-term view of the topics of current interest for the sales agents at the European level. It also helps the dialogue with our long-time partners such as the European institutions, partner organizations, the festivals and markets, especially on topics that are impacting the industry at large: future of the film ecosystem, green distribution, etc. It is very important for us that the board of Europa International represents the European film sales agents in their diversity and that it continues to work in transparency and by including all EI members. Two years ago, we started internal working groups on topics of interest for the profession and many members joined one or the other; it is great to have everyone getting involved in their field of interest and expertise. We are now very much looking forward to expand our collaboration with sales agents located in countries where we do not have that much representation like Spain or Eastern Europe”.

Former board member Jenny Walendy (The Match Factory) becomes treasurer of Europa International while Leo Teste (Film Constellation) is also renewing his involvement in the organization as board member. New comers in the board include senior executives from France, Italy and Germany: Florencia Gil (Urban Sales), Gaetano Maiorino (True Colours), Francesca Manno (Summerside Media) and Valeska Neu (Films Boutique).

Among the gathering’s various topics, European film sales agents discussed the future of film markets and the evolution of their jobs and expertise. Feedback on the different supports offered both by European institutions and Member States to the circulation and international distribution of films was part of the programme. Sales agents also took a moment to exchange on best practices and advices to answer those support schemes. All sales agents highlighted the very necessary role of such supports to help discovering new talents and to promote European cinema to European audiences.
