and in the series La Révolution).

Written by the director together with Serge Valletti, the story follows Maria who’s not as young as she used to be and who helps people older than her. Living from hand to mouth, she can’t quite accept her precarious situation and steals a few euros here and there from all those lovely people she looks after with such devotion, and who adore her for it… But after an accusation of abuse of a vulnerable person, Maria winds up in police custody…

Robert Guédiguian was selected to compete in Cannes in 2002, in Berlin in 2005 and 2008, in Venice in 2017 and 2019, and in San Sebastian in 1998 (where he won the Special Jury Prize) and 2004. His work was also selected out of competition in Cannes in 2009 and in the Un Certain Regard line-up in 2011. His last opus, Et la fête continue!, will be released in French cinemas on 15 November.

Produced by Marc Bordure and Robert Guédiguian on behalf of Agat Films & Cie, La Pie voleuse has been pre-purchased by Canal+ and Ciné+, and benefits from the support of Sofitvciné and Universciné. The six-week film shoot in Marseille, with Pierre Milon helming photography, is set to wrap on 14 October. Distribution in France is entrusted to Diaphana while international sales fall to Playtime.

For the record, Agat Films are also overseeing filming on Une affaire de principe by Antoine Raimbault (read our article) and the production of Michel Hazanavicius’ animated movie The Most Precious of Cargoes [+leggi anche:
