Shooting finished last week in San Sebastian on The Gentleman (Ya no quedan junglas adonde regresar), the first film by Mexican filmmaker Luis Gabriel Beristáin. The Gentleman is based on the novel of the same name by Carlos Augusto Casas, scripted by Juma Fodde and Teresa Trasancos, and tells the story of Theo or the Gentleman (played by Ron Perlman). This ex-serviceman spends a lonely existence between memories of a better past, hours wasted in a dingy bar with other destitute old men and the arrival of Thursdays, when he sees Olga, a Ukrainian prostitute whom he pays to talk, remember what they were and dream of what they could have been. It is only during this hour that he feels alive. But one day the girl is murdered: four lawyers are the suspects and the Gentleman embarks on a quest for revenge.

Luis Gabriel Beristáin makes his directorial debut after having worked with great names such as Guillermo del Toro, Derek Jarman and David Mamet. "Entering into this world of feelings, of those who grow in the face of adversity, and being able to tackle the novel and translate it into audiovisual language was an exciting challenge," he said. "It's a project I'm looking forward to, firstly because it means working with the generous Álvaro Ariza, who has believed in me from the beginning and has a tremendous cinematographic vision, and secondly because I'm interested in acting, coupled with a story that I find fascinating. I hope that the international experience I have gained throughout my career can be reflected in this film."

The Gentleman is produced by the Spanish companies Esto También Pasará and Ya no quedan junglas AIE and the Mexican company SDB Films, with the participation of SGR, in association with Film Factory Entertainment (its sales agency) and with the collaboration of LKS Next Legal.
