scheda film] (co-directed with Marie Amiguet, unveiled as a special screening in Cannes, nominated three times at the César awards and winner in the Best documentary category, 626 000 entries in France).

Written by the director, the script begins with a man walking, with his backpack, a stick in hand, his heavy and warm jacket over his shoulders, towards the depths of an old mossy wood. Neither the wind, the mist, nor even the snow will stop him in his momentum to reach his lookout, his hiding place: a pine tree. By sliding underneath the low branches, the man disappears and another world awakes – that of animals. The old sage invites us to share powerful emotions beside him, the ones he experienced during hundreds of hunts. The time has come for him to share his knowledge and his memories of his most beautiful wild encounters. Throughout a trip in our nearby forests, he will awaken us to the “sensible”, or more precisely to the poetry of the natural world, which he has transmitted to his son as soon as he reached the age of 12, and which he will perhaps share with his grand-son as well.

According to Vincent Munier, “this is the story of a life spent on the lookout, like these evenings of yesteryear when, around a fire, our eyes and our imagination wide open, we would listen to adventure tales. This one takes us far into the depths of the forest, into the mysteries of our beings, thanks to this man gifted with the power of awakening the fire of wonder that lies dormant within us all.”

Whispering in the Woods is produced by Pierre-Emmanuel Fleurantin and Laurent Baujard for Paprika Films and by Kobalann Production (the director’s company), and co-produced by France 3 Cinéma. Pre-bought by Ciné+, the film also benefits from an advance on sales and from the support of the Grand Est region and the Vosges department. The shoot, which will last until the end of the summer, will take place in the Vosges, Sweden and Slovenia amongst other places. International sales are directed by The Bureau Sales and distribution in French theatres will be handled by Haut et Court.

As a reminder, Paprika Films currently has in post-production Filles du Ciel by Bérangère McNeese (produced with Belgian outfit Kwassa Films – read the article) and will soon enter into funding for Night Shift by Filippo Meneghetti (whose Parisian company produced his previous work, the multi-award-winning Two of Us [+leggi anche:
