Having kicked off on 19 August, filming on Goodbye Cruel World - the first feature film by director Félix de Givry (known as a producer and actor since he notably held the lead role in Eden) - wrapped on 7 October.

The cast is led by youngsters Milo Machado-Graner (nominated for 2024’s Best Newcomer César and Acting Revelation Lumière via Anatomy of a Fall, and hitting screens next year in Ma mère, Dieu et Sylvie Vartan) and Jane Beever (glimpsed in the British series Professor T). Emmanuelle Destremau (Felicità), Maïa Sandoz (Love According to Dalva) and Erwan Kepoa Falé (highly acclaimed in Winter Boy and Eat The Night) are also in on the action.

Written by Marie-Stéphane Imbert (Marguerite’s Theorem, Gold for Dogs) together with the director himself, the story follows 14-year-old Otto who addresses a suicide letter to his family and classmates but who ultimately fails in his attempt. He goes into hiding, too ashamed to return home and, by night, he haunts the streets of his town, like a ghost. Until Léna, a girl from his high school, recognises him…

Goodbye Cruel World is produced by Manon Messiant on behalf of Iliade & Films and by Félix de Givry and Ugo Bienvenu for Remembers, in co-production with Belgian outfit Umedia. Likewise supported by the Normandy region, Chanel and Procirep-Angoa, the feature film was shot over seven weeks, with Tara-Jay Bangalter heading up photography. International sales are steered by Playtime and distribution in French cinemas by Diaphana.
