Last week, Ventana Madrid (the forum formerly known as Ventana CineMad) unveiled the titles of the 16 projects selected for its tenth edition, which will unspool from 11-13 November in the Spanish capital. The announcement took place during Iberseries Platino & Industria in the presence of Raúl Torquemada, director of the Madrid Film Office; Ana de Miguel, general manager of Institutional Relations and Strategic Projects at the mayor’s office, Madrid City Council; Gonzalo Cabrera, general manager of Culture and Creative Industries in the Community of Madrid; and director-producer Carlo D’Ursi, chair of the Madrilenian Audiovisual Association (AMA).

Ventana Madrid is a meeting place dedicated to both features and series, which bolsters the financing and co-production opportunities as well as the visibility of audiovisual projects that have a specific link to the city it is held in. Its objective is to promote international co-production, attract investment funds and connect creators with investors and sales agents so as to enhance the promotion and circulation of their work.

In order to select the projects that would end up as finalists for this 2024 iteration, the selection committee assessed both the production/financing structure and the artistic content of the propositions, and bore in mind the ability and the potential of the project to access the international market. Said committee was made up of Antonio Bazaga, a director of development and co-productions, as well as being an executive producer and screenwriter; Isona Admetlla, a sociologist, cultural affairs director, audience designer, consultant, teacher and coordinator of the Berlinale World Cinema Fund; and Silvia Iturbe, a cultural affairs director who does consultancy work and collaborates with international gatherings of the likes of the Bogotá International Film Festival (BIFF) and the Málaga Film Festival.

Of the 16 selected projects, 14 are features (11 of which are fictions, one a documentary and two animated flicks) and two are series: the full list can be perused at the bottom of this article. Standing out among them, on account of their future directors being well-known names, are: Contarlo para vivir by Miguel del Arco (a highly regarded playwright in Spanish theatre, who made his directorial debut in the film world with The Furies [+leggi anche:

, made in Venice’s Biennale College Cinema).

The selected titles are highly feasible audiovisual projects that are at the advanced development stage. They all come from audiovisual production companies that have their head office in the Community of Madrid, or from firms in other autonomous communities with projects in development, in which the action, shooting or post-production takes place in the city or Community of Madrid.

Ventana Madrid, which is organised by AMA Audiovisual in conjunction with the Community of Madrid and Madrid City Council, with the support of PIAF, Film.io and ARwall, is introducing an overhauled name for its tenth edition, dropping the term “film” from its moniker, in line with the evolution of the industry. It thus demonstrates its eagerness to open up to other audiovisuals formats, including features and series.
