Jacques Audiard’s sensation, which opened at Cannes with a Jury Prize and a Best Actress Award for its four main actresses, and which has just swept the European Film Awards (see the news), now seems to be ready to take the Americas by storm, after quite a modest start in the awards from critics' circles. The film has grabbed a whopping ten nominations, including Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, Best Motion Picture – Non-English Language, Best Director and Best Screenplay, as well as one for lead actress Karla Sofía Gascón, and two for supporting actresses Zoe Saldaña and Selena Gomez, plus a total of three in the music categories (Best Original Score and two in Best Original Song). The last time a 100% European film led the nominations was in 2011 with The Artist [+leggi anche:

With a total of seven nods, the film cements its decent start in the awards race, by showing up in the main categories, including Best Motion Picture – Drama, Best Director and Best Screenplay. This year’s other Cannes sensation, the winner of the Best Screenplay Award at the festival, grabbed a total of five nominations, including Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, Best Director and Best Screenplay. Five is also the number of nominations racked up by Sean Baker’s Palme d’Or winner, Anora.
No less of a surprise are the two nominations for the Cannes Grand Jury Prize winner All We Imagine as Light [+leggi anche:
