The comedy stars Cristina Marcos (Goya winner in 1994 for All Men Are the Same), marking her return to cinema after a decade, although she has appeared in the in recent TV series Pulsaciones, Desde el mañana and Locked Up. scheda film], as well as the series Segunda muerte. The cast is completed by Marcos Cáceres (seen in the series The Snow Girl), Numa Paredes (the series The Left-Handed Son) and José Manuel Segado (Óscar, una pasión surrealista).

The plot of Cataratas revolves around Auri (played by Cristina Marcos), a housewife who embarks on a journey to discover her desires and achieve independence after receiving her first money of her own. She is determined to explore the world of indulgence, while her husband (played by Karra Elejalde) becomes obsessed with turning their grandson into a millionaire footballer, in an attempt to escape his reality as a retired man and the decline of his physical abilities

Cataratas will be filmed over six weeks. According to the filmmakers, it is an adventure of self-discovery, where the protagonists will challenge social norms and gender expectations. It will also explore topical issues such as class complexity within a working-class family, the impact of gender and age on personal autonomy and satisfaction, the importance of social recognition, and family and generational dynamics.

According to Salama, “Cataratas is a film about the need to feel like a winner. Its story explores issues of class complexity and hidden ambitions. It offers, with a domestic setting and a tone full of humour and tenderness, reflections on why we can't help but dream and where our frustrations stem from.

The story of Cataratas was one of the winners of the first Break On Time 59' Screenplay Competition organised by ISII Group, an audiovisual project launcher that aims to be a benchmark for the Spanish sector in supporting, promoting, and increasing visibility for content, helping creators transform scripts and stories into audiovisual works. Its author, Samuel Pinazo Arias, is a playwright and scriptwriter, co-creator and lead writer of the series Malaka and Honor, and has also written films such as Las tetas de mi madre and Topos.

With a budget of 5.1 million euros, Cataratas is a film by Inefable Productions.
