Revealed on Locarno’s Piazza Grande in 2018 with Breath of Life, David Roux is currently shooting his second feature, titled Mrs. Mélanie Thierry (nominated three times at the Césars, and whom we will see in Rotterdam in Morlaix and in theatres in April in La chambre de Mariana) leads the cast.

The actress is supported by Éric Caravaca (nominated for the 2002 Best Actor César for The Officers’ Ward, seen recently in Three Friends), Arnaud Valois (2018 Newcomer Lumière winner and nominated the same year for the Best Newcomer César for BPM (Beats Per Minute), impressive last year in the series Becoming Karl Lagerfeld), Belgian actor Jérémie Renier (seen recently in November and Let’s Get Lost). Joining them are Jérôme Deschamps (An Irrepressible Woman), Jeanne Rosa (Hear Me Love), Lila Gueneau (Eat The Night), Sarah Le Picard (A Night Doctor, One Fine Morning) and the young Jules Mariot.

Written by the director with Gaëlle Macé (nominated for the 2015 Best Screenplay Lumière award for Elle l’adore) and based on the novel Son nom d’avant by Hélène Lenoir, the script centres on Marianne, the wife of a wealthy industrialist, envied and admired, model spouse and devoted housewife. She’s about to turn 40 and the comfort of the large family home has slowly closed its merciless trap on her. The prisoner of an inextricable network of social, family and marital obligations, accomplice of her own erasure, she has denied herself, without even realising. And so, when the shadow of her past resurfaces from the shadows, a breach opens. Is another life possible? And at what cost?

Mrs. is produced by Candice Zaccagnino for Eliane Antoinette and by Olivier Akin for Reboot Films (a partnership that was already behind David Roux’s first feature), anc co-produced by Belgian outfits La Compagnie Cinématographique and Panache Productions. Pre-bought by Ciné+/OCS, Disney+ and TMC, the feature also benefits from the support of the Pays de la Loire region, the Somme department, Procirep and Angoa, as well as Sofica Cineventure, Cofimage and Cofinova. The shoot will take place in January and February with Aurélien Marra (nominated at the 2021 Lumière Awards for Two of Us) as director of photography, and French distribution will be handled by Jour2Fête.
