scheda film] by Latvia’s Gints Zilbalodis and Memoir of a Snail by Australian Adam Elliot), French international sales agent Charades will be kicking off the 75th Berlinale’s European Film Market (running 13 – 19 February) with its usual dynamism and energy.

scheda film], which is set to open the Generation 14plus competition on Friday. The film is a co-production between Ireland (Sleeper Films) and the UK (Wayward Films and Nite Owl Film & TV).

scheda film], the French filmmaker has gathered together a cast composed of Léa Drucker, Yoann Blanc and Guslagie Malanda for his latest opus. Co-written by the director in league with Gilles Marchand, the story homes in on Stéphanie, a police officer working for Internal Affairs who’s entrusted with a case revolving around a young man who’s been seriously injured during a tense and chaotic protest in Paris. Stéphanie can’t find any proof of unlawful police violence, but the case takes a personal turn when she discovers she and the victim share the same hometown… The film is currently in post-production and was produced by Haut et Court.

Likewise winging its way into the line-up is Danish director Kasper Kalle Skovsbøl’s title, No Rest For The Wicked. Currently in post-production, the film stars Pilou Asbæk, Egor Venned, Sofia Nolsøe and Kjartan Hansen in its cast. The story takes us back to 1862 and into the world of Baldur who leads a fisherman’s life on the Faroe Islands, far away in the northern Atlantic Ocean. But his life is turned upside down by the arrival of a foreigner called Helge, a rugged whaler who awakens deep emotions within him. A mutual attraction begins to develop, and when tragedy strikes, their forbidden passion unleashes natural forces so troubling, the villagers rally together to ward off evil. But Baldur and Helge refuse to bury their love. They fight to the very end, and beyond… Production was steered by SF Studios Production together with Faroese firm Kykmyndir and Icelandic outfit Truenorth.

Another title worthy of attention is the animated movie in production, New Dawn, by Japan’s Yoshitoshi Shinomiya (produced by Japanese firm Asmik Ace and their French colleagues at Miyu Productions), not to mention the market screening of Je le jure by Samuel Theis (news), which is due for release in France on 26 March (for the record, without casting aspersions over his guilt or innocence, a report of abuse filed against the director during filming has given rise to legal proceedings which are currently underway).
