The Film Centre of Montenegro and the Moldovan National Film Centre signed a Memorandum of Cooperation at the European Film Market (EFM) in Berlin last week. The agreement was inked by the executive directors of the two institutions, Aleksandra Božović and Valentina Iusuphodjaev, setting the stage for deeper collaboration in the audiovisual sector and the promotion of film culture between the two countries.

The Memorandum outlines a programme for the screening of Moldovan films in Montenegro in 2025, followed by screenings of Montenegrin films in Moldova in 2026. The partnership will also include educational workshops, expert lectures, and panel discussions, with a strong emphasis on fostering bilateral cooperation within the film industry. Networking opportunities for filmmakers from both nations are also a priority.

Aleksandra Božović, executive director of the Film Centre of Montenegro, said: “Signing this Memorandum is a significant step in strengthening cultural ties between Montenegro and Moldova. I believe this collaboration will open new opportunities for our filmmakers and contribute to audience development in both countries. We are particularly excited to present the best of Moldovan cinema to Montenegrin audiences this year.” 

Valentina Iusuphodjaev, executive director of the Moldovan National Film Centre, echoed this sentiment: “This Memorandum is the result of our joint efforts to build strong connections between our film industries. Through the planned exchange of film programmes and professional expertise, we are creating space for new co-productions and artistic collaborations. We look forward to bringing Montenegrin film art closer to the Moldovan audience and working together to develop film culture.”

In addition to the Montenegrin partnership, the Moldovan National Film Centre also signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Azerbaijan Film Agency. This agreement aims to facilitate co-productions and joint initiatives to support the development of resources in countries with smaller production capacities.
