The 29th edition of Baltic Sea Docs, the leading documentary co-production pitching event in the Baltic region, is now accepting submissions. The event will take place from 31 August to 5 September in Riga and the deadline for project submissions is 9 May.

Baltic Sea Docs serves as a key platform for documentary filmmakers to pitch their projects to international broadcasters, sales agents, film funds, and other industry professionals. The forum focuses on feature-length creative documentaries, with a special inclusion of documentary animation and cross-media projects. Participating teams will benefit from pitch training sessions, project presentations, one-on-one meetings with decision-makers, industry seminars, and networking opportunities. Furthermore, up to four films that have previously been pitched at Baltic Sea Docs and are currently in post-production will also be featured in the Coming Soon session while a curated selection of films will be presented to the wider public.

The event is open to independent production companies from the Baltic Sea region, Eastern Europe, and the Caucasus. Companies from other European countries are eligible to apply if their project has a connection to these regions or includes a regional co-producer. Participation is free of charge, providing selected teams with valuable opportunities to enhance their creative work, gather industry insights, and explore potential financing avenues.

Some of the recent and upcoming projects that have been pitched at Baltic Sea Docs include 9-Month Contract by Ketevan Vashagashvili (Georgia/Bulgaria/Germany), Special Operation by Oleksiy Radynski (Ukraine/Lithuania), The Guest by Zvika Gregory Portnoy and Zuzanna Solakiewicz (Poland/Qatar), and A Poem for Little People by Ivan Sautkin (Ukraine/Lithuania/UK), among others.

Selected projects will be announced on 4 June. Full details on how to apply and participate are available at balticseadocs.lv.

Baltic Sea Docs is organised by the National Film Centre of Latvia, with support from Creative Europe – MEDIA and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Latvia.
